Understanding histotripsy

A focused ultrasound technology.

The principle

Histotripsy uses focused ultrasound to produce a local mechanical effect in targeted tissue. Unlike thermal ablation, its primary mechanism does not rely on heating the tissue.

Evidence and clinical context

The technology is being studied and used in defined clinical settings. Evidence, permitted indications and access must be considered separately: a study result or authorisation in one country does not establish availability or suitability elsewhere.

Individual treatment decisions

Suitability depends on clinical factors that can only be assessed by qualified healthcare professionals. Your treating team can discuss the evidence, potential risks, alternatives and any relevant referral options.
